Home
I know I am I’m home when I hear my dogs’ feet scraping and scrambling behind the front door. Home is just not a place; it’s a space where I feel like I can do anything I want and be anything I want. Other places I feel not heard, shy, and self-conscious, but at home I feel like I’m a whole different me. I feel like I can talk to anyone, about anything. At home I feel safe. I know this because all the scary parts of me are outside of me and I can stand up to them. I know I’m home, not just because I’m at home, but because I’m doing something I love with my friends, family and even pets that makes me feel comfortable. Sometimes that looks like this -I sink into that special spot on the couch, and as soon as I start to settle in, my dog jumps up and starts to snuggle in with me begging for popcorn. But at the end of the day, it does not matter what I’m doing at home, it matters what I feel. What I feel can change at different times, but most of the time I feel safe. I feel like I belong, and I feel like no matter what I am, my family will always like me.
