Home Means
Home means growing up
Growing up is getting measured on our wall.
All our friends and family get measured every fall.
All my cousins are getting taller and older. Growing up is sharing a room with my sister
It’s getting easier because we are getting mature
Growing up is listening to new music in my room.
Singing into a hairbrush and air guitar with a broom.
Growing up is being allowed to do new things.
I’m allowed to walk around town with friends, cook my own food, and watch my little cousins,
Home means Comfort
Comfort from the wind and the cold.
We get cozy and love the stories that are told.
Comfort from shadows and spooky sounds.
I like to wrap blankets around me and tell myself they are just stories.
Comfort from when I am feeling down.
My mom gives me a hug to erase my frown
My little dog comforts me when I feel lonely.
She is always ready to snuggle and play.
Home means memories,
Memories of my cousins and I at the beach near my house.
We swim, play tag, laugh, and play volleyball.
Memories of my cousins and I having hula hoop competitions.
We put a timer on to see who can do it the longest.
Memories of all the family barbecues we have.
We eat roasted marshmallows over a fire.
Memories of our family vacations.
All the new places we go and the new things we get to try.
This is what home means to me!
