Movie Nights
I'm laying down in my living room on the couch with warm, fresh popcorn sitting on my lap.
The fireplace is going, and I'm snuggled in a fluffy blanket. I could smell the cookies baking in the oven, it's my favorite smell. I could hear the sound of an owl outside. That sound made me feel cozy, because it reminds me of when I was younger.
“Edie! Cookies are ready!” Said my mom.
I've always loved chocolate chip cookies, especially my mom’s ones. I head down to the kitchen and grab myself a glass of milk, because who has cookies without milk? The cookies are warm, when I break one open to cool it off, I can see the melted chocolate chips in the middle.
‘“Yumm” I say as I stuff cookies in my mouth.
“You like them? I tried a new recipe,” asked my mom.
Tried a new recipe??? My mom always sticks with the same recipe. Since I was... I guess since I was born. I nod as we walk back to the couch and snuggle back in the blanket.
To me, home means somewhere we feel comfortable or safe, like your happy place.
Or home could mean when you’re with someone, like a family member or a friend. Or it could mean a sense, like a certain smell, taste, sound or feeling. Movie night with my mom makes me feel at home because it gives me time to just relax and not stress about anything. It's also a way to just let your body rest.
Home is important to me because you can be yourself, and you dont have to be perfect.
It's somewhere you feel you belong, somewhere where you dont have to pretend to be someone that you're not.
