What Home Means to Me
For me home isn’t just an apartment.
If you live in a place where nobody loves you or cares about you, it’s just going to be a place with furniture, walls, and doors. A home has love, joy, and memories. Imagine you sit on your bed and you remember all the sleepovers, and laughter you had. Imagine you also see a Christmas tree and you remember all of the Christmases you’ve celebrated. You also remember all the times your friends came over for Christmas.
A home is where you feel safe. What makes me feel safe is when I come back from somewhere and I feel really tired and I smell the warm Ukrainian dumplings that my parents are making. That’s what makes me feel safe because I know that my parents are home. I used to live in Ukraine, but my home is in Canada. The reason I didn't feel safe in Ukraine, is because I used to hear bombs exploding. So that’s why my home is in Canada now.
Therefore, now you know that home isn’t always just a building.
