A Home Is More Than A House
Everything has a house of its own
that feels to them like home.
A hill, a home to the ant,
A hive, a home to the bee,
A pot, a home to the plant,
A kettle, a home to the tea,
My mom’s arms, a home to me.
When we see a house,
Who it belongs to we cannot tell,
But our home we recognize by the little things,
Like how it feels and smells.
Our home should be a place,
Where God is honoured and praised,
Where we wonder about His mercies,
And thank Him for His grace.
What good is a fancy house,
Where sadness is a frequent guest?
I’d rather have a simple home,
With peace, quiet, and rest.
Our home is our solid base,
Which we always come back to.
The home is a safe place,
For when we are feeling blue.
Though non-tangible things matter much,
Sometimes it is nice to have that special thing to touch.
A blankie, teddy bear, or even a loved one,
All these are things that make us feel at home.
Thank you to Habitat for Humanity for building houses that are more than just four walls, a floor, and a roof. These houses can turn into homes with lots of special memories, happiness, and meaning.
