Meaning of Home

When someone says to me, “Avery, explain your house to me.” I will never say that I am growing up in a house because I am growing up in a home. A home to me includes safety, caring, kindness, affection and the feeling of being yourself. When I come home from school almost every day in summer my dad is waiting for me and we immediately go play on the trampoline or go make a stick fort. A big part of a home to me is animals. My whole family loves animals even if my dad doesn't want to admit I know he loves our animals. In our home we have around twelve pets. I love them all dearly. Having pets is like having a sister or brother for me and that I find makes a house a home. We have three dogs and I think I've spent a big majority of my life with them. I have had a dog in my life since I was around two. Another thing that makes a house a home is making it welcoming. In our home whenever anyone comes over we greet them. At first it was just a normal thing in our family but now it's kind of a joke because even if it's just my dad coming back from collecting the eggs I always greet him with a huge hug and a “HELLO!” Having a home I think has to include laughter without laughter a house wouldn’t be a home. All and all to me a house is not a home without a family. Family makes your house a home.
