Home

Home is a place where kids grow up. Home is where we understand our culture. Home is my family/ Home is what I hear, smell, see, taste, and touch. At home, I hear the song sparrows chirping with the sun rising. At home, I hear my voice bouncing off the shower walls as I sing and scrub. At home, I hear my mom vacuuming the floors as we munch on her cuisine. At home, I hear the tapping of my sister’s shoes as she dances away. At home, I smell the sweet lavender on walks to the grocery store with my grandpa. As we walk, the hallucinating scent of matcha lattes calls me over and I can never resist it! At home, I smell the horrendous stench of when the garbage gets too full. At home, I see the pencil marks slowly watching me grow. At home, I see all of my brother's toys I have to dodge in the playroom. At home, I see all the pictures in the storybooks I read to my brother. There are lots of airplanes, his favourite! At home, I see my family squished together to look at the aurora in the night sky. At home, I taste a different kind of congee my mom stews for me every morning. At home, I taste the bitter flavour of the Chinese medicine my dad feeds me when I’m sick At home, I taste the salty-sweet sauce on my fingers after my favourite fish snack. At home, my mom touches the soft blanket as she tucks me in at night. At home, I touch my sister's hands as we gaze at the stars. Home is where I belong. Home is not a house it’s how I feel.
