Home Renovation
House in progress
Air that is thick with drywall dust that makes me cough and sneeze.
A kitchen floor of narrow beams with rusty nails sticking out of them.
Early mornings with carpenters and electricians while I’m still eating breakfast.
Constant hammering, drilling and sawing all through the day.
Scaffolding outside my window and lots of boxes in my room.
Moving 1001 bags of gravel on the hottest summer day.
Slipping down the mossy front steps on a rainy night.
A stubbed toe on a tool that was left out.
Wind whistling through the hole in the roof and chilling my bones.
Arguing with my (annoying) brother over who vacuums up all the dust.
But in the chaos there is hope.
And love.
And warmth.
And peace.
And people who will support you through all the ups and downs.
It’s a homemade turkey pizza on a Friday night.
Reading curled up on my bed.
Watching Percy Jackson and Beast Games with my stuffies and family all squished on one couch.
Building the tallest, soon to be toppled towers with keva blocks.
There might still be work to be done but it already feels like home.
