Making A Home With Love

An airplane was soaring through the air and inside, was a man named Chris. He was immigrating from China to Canada with his wife Katie, his son James, his sister in law Kayla, and her husband Mark. When they got there, Chris was imagining what life would be like in Canada. He thinks it's full of opportunities, but they had to basically restart life! The next day, they started to learn English. It was very hard because they spoke Chinese and were new to English. One year later, Katie had a second boy named Justin. Chris had a job. It was hard for him to get a job because in China, he was a fashion designer. But, Chris could only do labor work in Canada, because he didn’t know how to speak English. While Katie took care of Justin, Chris went out to work. He was very hardworking, so 3 years later, they could buy a house but he still had to pay the mortgage. Lately, Chris has not been feeling well. He has had an upset stomach for nearly a month. So, he went to the hospital to check what was going on. The results shocked him and his family. It says that Chris has colon cancer! Chris was so sad because only 15% of people survive stage 4 colon cancer and Chris’s cancer was in its last stage. For the treatment, he has to go to the hospital and a doctor injects him with a substance but makes it so that he can’t eat for 3 days but he can still drink ( basically chemotherapy.) But before that though, Chris had to undergo some surgery to remove his colon so that he can’t poop. Everyone was so sad and confused because they thought that someone that healthy couldn't get that cancer. He couldn’t go to work anymore so he stayed home to take care of his kids. A year later, COVID-19 came. Chris was already in his last stage so he was more scared than ever! It's like any time now he can die. Also, COVID-19 made it worse! A lot of people are getting sick and are in the hospital. So, a hospital full of sick people with COVID-19 is a very convenient place if you want to get COVID-19. Chris was even scared to go inside because there is a BIG chance that he might get sick. Other than going to the hospital for the injections, Chris stayed home with Katie, Justin, and James. Three months later, Katie went back to work. A little while later, the global pandemic ended (in 2023.) By then, Chris was in a routine; every few weeks, he would go to the hospital and get chemotherapy which made him very weak. His family was giving him a lot of support so he gave them a lot of support back. Chris tended to the children and took them out to fun areas because he doesn’t have work. It took that work off Katie and she relaxed a bit. Chris was very happy to help out. At first, Chris was very scared, but with his family at his side, he wasn’t that scared anymore. These past few years, Chris’ family had been acting like it was his last day; supporting him, caring about him and loving him as if their life depended on it. And Chris has loved them from the start and he WILL continue to until the end. I think a home is not just a house but the people who you are living with. A home is a place where you are feeling supported and loved. And just like Chris, we need a loving family to keep us going.
