The Feeling of Home

My home is the sound of the coffee maker beeping at six am. It is kids laughing and playing. It is a cozy blanket in a thunderstorm. But here is the question: is it in Canada, Ireland or Denmark? Answer? The rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. When I walk, I feel content and secure. I don't know why, but I just do. As I head out in the garden, I find myself in my favorite place on my entire property. In the Summer, flowers are littered everywhere. The hose runs vertically up the side of the house, and the raspberry bushes make the tiniest berries ever. In the fall, the leaves fall and create a nice multicolored grass to play on. Pine needles also fall and make my backyard dangerous to anyone who dares go barefoot. In the Winter, Frosty the Snowman skates in our backyard with Sir penguin, which are two of my favorite Christmas decorations. The grass is rigid and white, and our snowberry bush is not exactly thriving. In the Spring, tree and flower buds appear everywhere and some even start to bloom. Everything seems to come back to life. The grass warms up and I feel alive again. Another place I really like is my room. The bed towers over everything and the hummingbird glows pink, green, and blue when light goes through it. The closet is always a mess and at least half the room is taken up by toy boxes full of stuffies. Under my bed is the coziest place in my entire room. It is where my stuffies go to hang out and the closest place to a second room. Then there’s the “Messy quarter”. That basically consists of my play kitchen and desk. My desk is, well, um… let’s just call it the highlight of the messy quarter. The reason being is that instead of just some papers and random thingamabobs it’s absolutely chaos. Sometimes I wonder if the mountains of papers and books will touch the bottom of my bed. Then there’s the other messy quarter. This time the bed doesn't form a roof over it. Not only that, but this one consists of my not-so bedside table, a bunch of toy boxes and books. Home is made up of memories of fun times as a family spent outside in my favorite place or in my cozy bedroom. It is a symphony of feelings waiting to be heard.
