Home
Home is the feeling of excitement while in the car. Fluffy pillows and blankets snuggled up on me. The car is so full of food and love. We arrive. We rush out of the car into the cabin and jump into the water. SPLASH! Fish swim to the lilies, frogs jump into the water. It’s silent. It all comes back to me, the smell of the fern trees and the sound of buzzing bees. All I can think about is how my ancestors jumped in the exact same water at the exact same place. It’s crazy how much it has changed. The solar panels were not there, the bever dam was not there.
I pause for a moment. I hop out of the water and walk into the cabin. I look around myself and realize that the old oven and kettle are still there and how the carving of my grampa's initials is still there. Not everything has changed.
“Time to play D.N.D,” Dad yells. When we start playing, we imagine magical adventures and the monsters we have to fight. It makes me think of Oscar, my bird, who died very young at only two months old. When D.N.D is over, night comes. We all get cozy and go to sleep. I dream of what could happen tomorrow and what new memories I can make and the new stories I can tell on the way.
Home is not the building you're in; it’s the people you're with and the memories you make, the new pages in your story book. That is what home is to me.
