More Than Chocolate

A dessert is often thought of as nothing more than a treat, maybe a reward, rarely the taste of comfort. For many a “simple” recipe can pass these borders, personally that recipe is a chocolate brownie. My home feels like a brownie, warm and comforting. I feel safe, like being wrapped up in a large gift of fudge, protected from injuries, saved from danger and hugged with love. My family are the bakers who make our home a dessert, we add the perfect ingredients. Although maybe not perfectly baked, my brownie isn’t perfectly smooth, it has bumps and indents-challenges my family faces when baking and loving. My house isn’t just a home, it’s a brownie, for which I am so grateful. Recipes differ, similar to our homes. For example; a brownie can be simple, easy to bake, and contain cheap ingredients. It will still be fresh, and tasty! A brownie could also be made with changes and add-ons. It mirrors the way we act at home. Each member of my family varies in different ways. If a brownie had chocolate chips (or didn’t), my family would still treasure it. Just like if my family were to change we would still love each other. A bite of a brownie makes the best memories flood to my head. Brownies bring the essence of Christmas-red and green sprinkles to add festiveness! The time with my relatives comes to mind, when they get to try our taste of home, feeling proud of our traditions. I’m so fond of the memories that live in my heart and my home. A brownie is more than a dessert for me, it’s my home: my memories and family. I know the process it took to bake, and I feel the warmth in my heart.
