"I'm Home"

I am a place that never leaves you behind, A haven for your heart, body and mind. I cherish the giggles, I embrace the tears, I’ve watched you flourish over the years. Your growth is marked on my chipped door frame, Both your past and present know my name. I’m not a mansion, my old walls creak, My cupboards wear stains from week to week. I’m here for the moments you fear to show, And the ones that make your spirit glow. I know every breath, soft or deep, Who’s tired from school, who can’t fall asleep. I smell of laundry and goldfish too, And lavender drifting when the candle is new. I’ve held bright birthdays, traditions and cheer, And grey, heavy days only a home could hold dear. When you have a problem, a thought or a scraped knee, Share your emotions and count on me. I’m here for joy and all your pain, Through loss and glory, sunshine and rain. Even when you leave me with the morning sun To chase the world ‘til the day is done, I’ll never follow, I’ll never depart, I’ll stay right here, your safe place to start. I hope you see what I can be, Not perfect walls, just stability. And if my dream one day roams, Every heart can say “I’m Home.”
