H.O.M.E.

H is for home-made meals Or knowing the best hide and seek spot. Homework done on the kitchen table And cutting spicy habaneros that make my eyes water Huge bear hugs on birthdays And cups of hot chocolate with family on wintry days. O is for overdue library books gathering dust Or trying thousands of outfits for one event. Welcomed opinions, countless opportunities And one really good pot of okro soup. My anchor against the ocean’s waves And the oasis under the desert sun. M is for millions of spelling words to memorize And markers that go missing after a month. Boring Mondays finished with teasing siblings and melodic symphonies flutter like butterflies. Museums and landmarks from far and wide and the magic memories made together. E is for emptying closets and filling boxes Or emotional goodbyes to all my friends. Entering a new place filled with emptiness And echoing voices down the hall. Even with anxiety and uncertainty The smile remains on my face Knowing our ever-glowing hearts are what make my home.
