My Community is my Home
To me, home is not just my house, it’s my neighbourhood and community. My way of home is through a sea breeze, the crisp smell of seaweed drifting in the air and the old folks smiling at me when I walk down the street. It brings a bounce to my step. The neighbourhood cats are loyal and beautiful. I always get a smile and a sticker from the nice gentleman at the grocery store and a wave from the cashiers.
My neighbourhood has so many diverse children with their own conditions that make them unique, they are my friends. We play on the street for hours until our beautiful sunset arrives and it waves down at us in a gentle and peaceful way. When it ends, our friend night is the one leading us back to our houses. On the way home, I feel like a weight is lifted off my shoulders and it makes me feel like I am going to be alright.
When I come home, my family welcomes me with a warm hug. At the dinner table we talk about our day, it feels good to share my feelings with people I trust. Sometimes we have neighbours, family and friends over. It makes our old house shake with happiness. The sounds of the piano echoes through the rooms against the hard tiles of our home. We all laugh, hug and sometimes cry together. When I sleep at night, I can see my neighbourhood lights and it comforts me as I drift to sleep. This is what home feels like for me.
