My Home

You might think that a home is a building, right? Wrong! Home isn't just a structure you live in. It is not just a building with a door, windows, rooms, walls, floors and a ceiling, and a yard or a garden. It is where your happy place is, just like where your heart belongs. It is where you feel welcome, safe, accepted and understood. Home is great because it is where I can count sheep in my sleep, sing the song Africa loudly in karaoke and compare scores with my parents, watch Garfield and Odie eating lasagna on television, play pingpong with my daddy in the basement, help my mommy do the laundry and fold my own clothes, wash dishes, help my dad change winter tires, and make my own comfortable fort in the living room. What makes home a home? Home is where I can “Beeeeee” and that means to be myself and to be a part of the family. Home is where people live together. It is where I can be with my family, with my mommy and daddy. It is where I belong. It is where I feel the love, joy, hope, connection and optimism. It is where I learn to talk, and walk, and laugh, and run, and think, and cry, and get mad, and play, and hug, and so much more. What do I like about home? It is also where I can enjoy and appreciate my parent’s dishes. I like sinigang, champorado, adobo and pancit. Home is a tasty and delicious place to be shared. HOME. It will always be with my family so home isn't just a structure, it is a safe and happy place. Thank you Habitat for humanity for giving students this opportunity to write about the meaning of home.
