More Than Just A Building

You may think that home is a building, Made out of bricks and stone, Shaped as a pentagon or even a cube, But that isn’t all what home is. It can be a place where your mood… Runs through a tube, Up and down, side to side, Playing like it’s on a swing or a slide, Going wherever you decide. Home is where memories are engraved, Lasting an eternity, Keeping your feelings contained, Staying with you eternally. Home is a place of joy and struggle, A circus where everything is in a juggle, Home lies inside of the things you love most, Hanging on to even the thinnest post. To me, home is my family and friends, Although they are not made of bricks and stone, They are the light in my world, Keeping me safe and making sure I’m not alone, With them I feel safe and at peace. Home isn’t always the same for everybody, When some people hear the word ‘Home’, They would think of a stereotypical house bright and happy, But it’s not the same for other people. Others don’t even know what ‘Home’ even is anymore, All they see is darkness and sorrow, Just hoping that they will have a chance to see tomorrow. Never-ending darkness floating through alleyways, down streets, With the light trying to break free, At its darkest points, midnight. While some see home as a place of hope, Some only see it as a place to mope, Warm and safe or cold and scary? It’s hard to figure out the answer. Everybody deserves a home, Even if they aren’t able to get a roof over their heads, They deserve to be loved, Inside their hearts is where they will find their true ‘home’. Home is where you should be cared for, Somewhere that you still have to explore. It’s a place of firsts and lasts, Witnessing your child walk, Maybe even taking your first steps. Even the place where you say your last goodbyes, Or reuniting with your closest friends, Home might be the place where time flies, Or stops and ends. Anywhere you go home will be there, To protect you, love you, Or maybe send you a cockatoo, Home is full of surprises! Most importantly as my mom said, “Home is where the heart is.”
