My Home
First, I will tell you about the physical properties of a home/house: it has walls and space for any kind of light. It needs insulation and flooring. It also needs to be stable so it doesn't get knocked over by harsh weather, such as storms and tempests. The mental properties of a home are memories built within its four walls. That is what a house/home is to a lot of people, and now I'll tell you what it means to me, through the five senses.
Smell: home smells like fresh Ang ku kueh (Malaysian steamed rice cake) out of the steamer, it also smells like freshly picked flowers and plants from the garden, like tomatoes and roses. Touch: home feels warm, like the heater in my bedroom, always set to exactly 22℃ for 2.5 hours. It also feels like a warm hug, comfortable and soft, when my mom tucks me in and gives me a kiss goodnight. Sight: home would look like an enchanting forest, with miracles and magic all around. It is colourful and luscious, filled with love. Taste: home would taste like chocolate. It is sweet, rich and sometimes bitter. Sound: home would sound like laughter and cheer, with each family member cheering each other on and providing encouragement.
Home is where everyone laughs and listens, hugs and helps, believes and belongs. When someone says, “There is no place like home”, I truly believe that!
