Where I Belong
The moment I shut my bedroom door, the world outside softens. The noise, the expectations, and the pressure of the day fade away, and I can finally be myself.
Late at night, while everyone else is asleep, the house grows silent. I lie awake staring at the ceiling, listening to the soft hum of the heater and the steady spin of my fan. I turn off the light, and the stillness settles around me. Wrapped in my blankets, everything feels calm and safe.
Ever since my parents separated, nights used to feel uncertain, and I worried the feeling of home was gone. But in these quiet hours, I began to realize that the comfort wasn’t in the whole house- it was here, in this room, in this silence.
In these moments, I don’t have to act a certain way or worry about what others think. I can pause, think, and understand my feelings. The next day, even when challenges appear at school, I carry that calm with me. From my room, to my school. I take a deep breath before speaking, and find the relaxation I felt while in my room. Suddenly, trying something new is possible.
Home is not just a house. It is the place where I can reset, feel steady, and grow into who I am. I sink into my blankets, letting the calm fill every corner of my room. Tomorrow will still come with noise and expectations, but tonight, I am home- where I belong.
