Stronger Than Concrete
Vrrroooomm! The moving truck sped down the rain washed road. As I watched it pull away, I felt an empty feeling inside me, as if I had lost a piece of a puzzle that completed me.
Even though our new house was in the city, our old house had certain qualities that this one didn’t. For example the house we had just left, had a certain cozy, warm feeling. It had been filled with our favourite snacks, photos and even the comfort of my bed. Now the walls, and pantries were not yet filled and even my bed felt different.
My old house had been filled with happiness even if the outside was the opposite. This house however, felt cold and unwelcome. I, myself, felt out of place, like a wild animal taken from its true home to be placed in the zoo. Our past dwelling had been more than just a house, it had been a comforting home. This one, not really.
“What's the difference?” you ask. Well, homes are built with something stronger than concrete and wood. They're built with emotions. Feelings don't grow on trees or sit on store shelves with prices below them. Emotions can’t sit in the palm of your hand like objects can. However, houses are the opposite, they're just normal brick buildings that could be filled with anything: a laughing family or a purring cat.
A house is just a place that anyone and anything could live in, but a home isn’t. I really hope that in some way this house starts to feel like home.
