What Is Home?

There is a difference between the word house… and the word home. A house is a building. Home is what is in it. By “in it” I mean the people who carry the attitude, the traditions, the family, the feelings, the things that make a house vivid. A house on its own is lifeless, it is simply a building with no meaning. When a family lives in a building, they call it “home.” When a family visits another building, they cannot call it “home.” Home is where you can feel safe, where you always know that someone will be there to comfort you when you feel sad, or to give you help when you need it. In your home you always feel like you belong, like there is always a safe place in the world, a place where you can always belong. At home you can always trust someone and they can always trust you. Your home moves with you, the home is where your family is, together. If you move from one house to another that does not mean your home is gone. It just means you move from one place to another place. The home would be carried together with you and your family. The home is the comfort, the safety, the trust that is formed between a family.
