What Does Home Mean To Me?
Home is a place where I feel loved and where I truly belong. It is not a place where I feel lonely or unwanted. Home is where I feel safe, happy, and completely comfortable being myself. When I walk through the door, a sense of peace washes over me. The smell of my mom’s cooking fills the air and wraps around me like a warm blanket. The sound of my sister laughing and talking brings energy and joy into every room. Even on the hardest days, home makes everything feel a little lighter.
Sometimes I sit at the table with my family, sharing stories and laughing about our day. Those simple moments mean the most to me. Other times, I relax in my room, playing games or reading, enjoying the quiet comfort that feels so familiar. These small, everyday experiences are what make my house special.
Before moving to Canada from Sri Lanka, I thought my home could only exist in one place. Leaving behind everything I knew made me feel both excited and scared. At first, everything felt strange and unfamiliar, and I missed my old neighborhood deeply. Slowly, though, I began to build new memories and discover new reasons to smile.
I realized that home is not just a location on a map. It is the people, the love, and the feelings of safety that surround you. Now Canada has truly become my home. Organizations like Habitat for Humanity help families find that same comfort, proving that everyone deserves a place where they feel loved and secure.
