Home is My Happy Place
When most people hear the word “home,” they think of a house: four walls with a roof. The dictionary defines a home as “the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household.” For me, though, home means so much more than that.
Sure, “home” is a physical place, one with comforts like electricity and running water. It’s the place where you live. Where you share meals, sleep, and grow up and older. It’s where you keep the things that matter most to you. It’s where you’re kept safe and sheltered from the elements.
However, even more so, “home” is a feeling. A happy and safe space where I feel most comfortable. A place where I can be myself and always be accepted. Where I can be loud and silly, or quiet and serious. One where I can relax and feel calm after a long day. It’s where daily routines and healthy habits are formed. It’s where I feel loved and where I can show love to my family without embarrassment. Where bad days don’t feel so bad, and mistakes aren’t so hard to fix.
Finally, and most importantly, “home” is people. It is the place where the people I care most about are. Where the family spends time together and grows closer with one another. It’s where we take care of and love our pets, and learn about who we are. Home is where we host friends, celebrate holidays, and make memories.
Home is my happy place.
