What Home Means to Me
To me, home means a safe place to stay where you should feel safe and be able to express yourself. If you had a hard day, you should be able to come home and be cheered up by your family, greeting you with a hug. You should have food, water, and shelter, but also happiness and a loving family. Home might be a happy place or at least a place where you feel happy. A home is different than a house. A house is just a shelter where you live and sleep. A home is all of those things and more. You should feel loved. You should feel like you’re part of the family, whether you're living with your biological family or not. You aren’t a servant or someone just there to cook and clean. Home is something everybody deserves, rich or poor, young or old. You don’t need a house to have a home, although everyone should have some shelter. Home is a place where you can feel your feelings. You can be excited if you just did something really good and people will be happy for you and celebrate with you, but you can also cry and tell people sad things, and they’ll listen, try to understand and make you feel better. You should feel welcome and know that you're needed. You should be able to feel like you have a place in this big, wide world. If you move houses, you might think that the house won’t be your home, but it will be if your family is there with you, even if it’s far away. A home should make you feel content, safe, and happy. I hope everyone has a home. That is what home means to me.
