The Haven of Peace
A gleaming house is made of bricks and beams,
While a loving home is made of hopes and dreams.
A house with a cooking bot might give me swift but soulless meals,
But a house with a thoughtful family will know how eating spicy, tangy Indian food feels.
A house might have a rough floor and a bumpy ceiling,
while my home has colourful rangoli patterns, each one a memory worth feeling.
A house might feel luxurious and beautiful,
But a home will feel safe, connected and wonderful.
A house might smell like paint that’s recently dried and new,
while a home will carry the warm, sacred scent of a lit diya you always knew.
A house might echo with creaking doors and the mechanical noise of lonely appliances,
But a home will fill with my family’s laughter and the warm voices that chase- off my silences.
A house might lay on concrete, sturdy from below,
while a home is made with love, which is the strongest thing I know.
