What Does Home Mean to Me?
I came from Israel where there is a war. My mom came from Sudan and then she went to another place named Eritrea. Then she came to Israel and that is where I was born.
It was very hard to live in Israel. I have a big sister and a little brother. In the morning at 6:00 a.m. the alarm sounded, and we had to go to our safe place. When we got there we realized that our neighbour had the key and he was away on vacation. We didn't have a choice. We had to wait until the alarms finished and wait in the stairs hearing the loud noise. Then my dad and my dad's best friend took the door and broke it. Then they made a new door so we could get inside and be safe. After this we were told to leave the country and we came to Toronto. We have a good life here. We still have rent and food to pay for, but it feels better that I live in a safe country with no war and kindness with friends and family.
Sometimes I get sad for my friends that are still there and for my family. When I am sad I have teachers that respect me and give me love In Canada. I have more peace here.
Home is where peace is.
