The Joy of a Home

In my home I feel like I am safe and that is something that I am grateful for. I am grateful because many people do not feel safe in their home. Therefore I consider myself very lucky. My home has love, memories, and culture. These three things are what home means to me and I think a lot of other people too and that's why I’m writing about them and why they are important. Homes often have love in them even if you don’t notice or don’t feel it but love is there. When I am at home I love my dogs and they love me back. Some people do not have someone to love or be loved by. I personally think that if no one loves you just love yourself since self love is a form of love as well. I love myself, my mum, my granddad and my pets. It is very important for a home to have love in it because without love a home is more like a house with strangers living together in it. Love is what keeps this world together. Without it life is just gray, this is why love inside and outside of your home is important. In my home there are memories. Some of my favorite memories are getting my dog, moving in, dancing in my house alone, getting REALLY wet outside in a rain storm.( I got the flu.) These are my favorite memories not because they are all good but because all memories shape us as who we are, even the meaningless ones. Memories don’t always make a good home because you can have memories that are bad or even traumatizing but having good memories of a house can easily make it more welcoming. Tying into memories nostalgia is another form of that. In my opinion nostalgia is one of the worst things a person can feel .Nostalgia can be because of a loss of a loved one or a feeling from a time you can’t be in anymore. Nostalgia is annoying because you can’t recreate the feeling it's coming from, making you feel worse about the memories. Family and homes have culture and traditions passed down from generation to generation and from different countries. In my home when we celebrate Christmas my family and I eat Polish foods for our big Christmas dinner. We eat foods like Pączki’s ( they are basically just a jam donut.) and potato pancakes. ( they are what they sound like.) I do think that people do not celebrate their culture enough in their home or in general even though keeping traditions alive is very important. Last year my mum taught me how to make Pierogi's. I felt like I was really celebrating my culture. My favorite thing about my home is my room because that’s where all my stuff is. My room is like my safe space with all my favorite things are, like my bed and stuff for drawing. I hope that in the future, everybody can live safely in a loving home. I am grateful that where I live is safe. Maybe in the future it will become easier for everyone to get a house, but why has it taken this long for people to acknowledge the housing crisis?
