Three Homes
My home is three places:
Sri Lanka
The birds chirping like a song to make me wake up is the best greeting. Laying down drinking tea on the sofa and looking out the window, banana trees waving in the wind and taking a ride on my purple bike is so good. But then life came to an end in Sri Lanka as I heard the news of our nuclear family leaving our huge happy extended family and moving to Canada. Why? We had a nice house, a nice garden and friends and family there was everything I could imagine. Then that day came for us to leave. Everybody was crying and full of tears. It is the worst leaving your home country. Finally the engines of the plane started and I couldn’t see Sri Lanka any longer. One last tear drop fell.
New Westminster
Then we arrived in Canada from the plane. It was snowing and freezing. I didn't even have a jacket. I only had my sweater with a t-shirt under it. I hated the freezing cold snow. Good thing it didn’t hail. We went in a taxi to the Air BnB but the key was in a tricky place and my dad couldn’t find it and my sister had to go to the bathroom badly. Finally my dad found the keys but there was a password. Finally my dad found out the password to enter. I was so relieved.
Two years later I had good friends and a soft cuddly cat named Pookey but that one day came again. MOVING’. We had to move but that day when we moved my cat Pookey disappeared along with New West. Without Pookey my family wasn’t complete but we had to go anyways.
Victoria
Looking back from the ferry tears dropped down from my eyes but I felt better when I was texting with my friends. My mom bought me a toy dog to feel better. I now feel better as I talk to my best friend often and I have my toy dog Simbi. My grandma lives in Edmonton with her dog named Simba so I feel better with that too. I know that we had to move from Sri Lanka to Canada because of our learning. For me there are three places I call home.
