My Home

For me, home can taste sweet like my grandma’s cookies or noisy like the sound of my brother and I playing games. It can be a swim in Lake Superior with my cousins or a ski down the hill at Searchmont. Home can be a big warm hug from a best friend, a brother, or a sister. Home can be a family dinner on Christmas Day or playing games of charades with my aunts. Home can be the smell of marshmallows roasting over a fire or feel like a midday nap in the cabin at my camp. Home can feel like a breezy sunny and windy afternoon in the summer. Home can be the taste of homemade Bannack straight out of the oven. Home can be my mom and I listening to music. Home is the comfort I feel watching my favorite tv show outer banks after school. Home can be the site of pancakes waiting for me when I wake up on a Sunday morning. Home can be the sound of laughter after my dad tells a joke. But I know that home is not always a happy and joyful place, it can feel sad, uncomfortable, and challenging at times. My home is a safe and secure space that I know I can always come back to.
