My Home, My Safe Space
“What is home?” you ask
Home is a place where you are free to moan and relax
I come home to ponder
To think and to wonder
When life smacks me in the face with sorrow and guilt
I come back home to rebuild
Not knowing how to deal with my emotions
I come home to get away from the commotion and depression
Once I start getting ungrateful
I remember I have food on the table
My home covers me with shelter
When some have to say outside and deal with the severe weather
Having a home is having a gift sent from God
You might say my definition is peculiar or odd
But think of all the wonderful things
Think of your parents or your siblings
If you knew me when I was seven or six
It would be very strange for to be writing this
I lived as a first class citizen
Once I immigrated to Canada we started from the beginning
Immigration made me think
How ungrateful I have been
How dramatic I was with all my unnecessary cries
I took for granted having a place to sleep at night
Losing all that I had
Made me understand
It doesn't matter what I face
My home, my safe space
