Home vs. House
A house is just a place
Where you might’ve just moved in.
But if it is just four walls, a roof, and a base
It won’t protect you like a home, through thick and thin.
A home has laughter and belonging
Memories and hope.
But a house is empty and your longing
For a place to call home.
In a house you are sitting down on a new couch
That feels too clean with no fluff and dust.
But in a home, there are people who slouch
On a couch that used to be clean and now has guts.
There is one thing I must say
You might disagree or not.
You might decide to keep these thoughts at bay
And you are looking up at a house you just bought.
But what I wanted to say is that
Home does not exactly have to be in a house.
It has to be a place to sit in silence or chat
A place to be with family, friends, your kids and spouse.
It could be an apartment or tent
Even a hospital room with a view
It could be a RV or a cabin with a pine scent
