WHY IS HOME IMPORTANT TO ME
“What is home?” some people might wonder. ”But why do they not have a home? Just get a job. Isn’t that simple” you might say. Well, you just cannot judge them. Some people, like you, are not on the streets. But did you know that some 3000 kids in Mississauga alone are on the streets?!?! It is so true! and that's only kids. HOW MANY ADULTS WILL THERE BE SUFFERING FROM POVERTY!! Again, I know I have a home, a family, a bed to sleep in, a good education and most importantly, family. Actually, CP24 has an estimate of unhoused people in Ontario. “Hello ,CP24 Paul Cook speaking . We have just found out that there are ~Eighty- One Thousand, Five Hundred Fifteen homeless people in Ontario. I’m Paul Cook, signing out”. WHAT! THAT IS 25% MORE homelessness around Ontario. So I am going to tell you what home is for me. Home is the feeling of safety, knowing the home can save me from potential death. The home doesn't just start as a home, it's the people that have been in the structure that makes it so special. Home is NOT, and I repeat home is not the cockroach infested house, or that house that you couldn’t even access your own belongings. A flooded basement would be cheap but not a good house if you are alone. But if you have family and friends, all the leaks and cracks are filled with love. Only such power in family. All this power makes a structure familiar, a place where everything you have is there, right where you eat, you sleep, make memories and everything that makes up your childhood. Leaving a house can be painful, all you’ve ever had, moving all your stuff. That new structure becomes your home. A stain remains on your heart forever of that old home, for everything you loved, you recognized, was sold. Tears drench your eyes, you don’t want to go. Maybe just hide behind the curtains, and your parents will let you and your family to stay.
