What Makes Home
Do you think it is not fair that not everyone has a home?
A home is not a duplicate of a house. A house is a physical object and a home is more of a feeling. Home is where we feel belonging, comfort and at ease. Home is not confined by the walls of your house. Home is where love and peace collide. Home is where you can relax after that busy day at work or school. Despite a house having that cold, hard foundation, it can lead up to a home where you can have that feeling of a warm blanket wrapping around you on a snowy morning.
The people you are with make you feel safe, loved and protected. You can also talk to people. For example, how would you feel if you were to have a problem and no one to talk to? Imagine how devastated you would feel. That is merely one, out of hundreds of situations in which having someone to talk to feels so relieving, and sometimes you just want to talk about your daily experiences.
One of the misconceptions I had while writing this essay was that you do not even need a family or someone in your house to call it home. You just need someone to be with you. Sometimes it could even be a trusted neighbour.
A house is safe because of that cold, hard foundation. For example locked doors, security cameras and locked windows. A house also provides safety from bullies and disrespectful people.
Not only does Habitat For Humanity help build houses for families, Habitat For Humanity is helping build life skills. Habitat For Humanity is not only helping us forge a bigger, better and untroubled society, Habitat For Humanity is making homes more accessible than ever before.
