Part of Me

Slowly I wake up, and I appreciate everything around me. All part of MY community. I walk into town and I see everything that’s a part of me. The cafe I go to when I’m sad. Or the bakery where my mom works. So I sit on my steps and think and the porch talks to me. “ Hey kid, you see these memories that we made. All the times you talked with your mom and she sang that song that makes you feel better. You're not alone.” Now I know how lucky I am to have home. That sets me free and lets me be. Now as I walk onto the kitchen floor it talks to me, but first I take it all in. How lucky I am. “Hey kid, remember all the times dad was was there to make his special meal. And you know how that made you feel, it made you at home because at home you’re not scared.” Now I see how lucky I am and how much my identity means to me. Now as I enter the living room, it talks to me. “Hey kid, how do you? Remember the times You were blue and you came here to calm down. Here is a place where you are safe.” I know that I’m safe in my home. Now as I enter my bedroom it talks to me. “Hey kid, what’s up? Remember the years you were afraid of the dark, and you came and you felt safe? You felt at HOME, because you’re in a community, and in your community you're at home.” So now I realise home to me is where I’m not alone not scared safe at home. And most of all, where I am respected.
