Home
The words house and home sound similar, and some might use these words interchangeably. To me, however, they mean very different things. A house is a structure designed for people to live in. It's basic purpose is to provide shelter and protection. It can be made in many different styles and with many different materials and in many different places, and may even represent a expression of the owners taste. Ultimately, however, a house is just a structure. In fact a house is a house whether people live in it or not. A home, however, is something much greater more special. A house becomes transformed into a home where it's spaces are used to make memories with friends, family, and the pets that you love. A home can also be the space in which you find comfort after a long hard day at work or school and the place that provides the calm security you feel when you want privacy and and a escape from the world. For me particularly, my home has become part of my development and my identity. It is the place we celebrate birthday's and special occasions as well as support each other through rough times of sadness and loss. It's where my sister and I argue and fight, or cuddle and watch tv or play doll's or board games with our parent's. It's where we watch movie's all together as a family, and it's the place where my dad reads us book's before we go to bed at night and my mome dances with us in the kitchen. My home is a place we congregate with are extended family members too, where we laugh and swim in the pools in the summer and toboggan in the winter, and where we play make believe in the cabins while our dogs follow us around to protect us from coyotes. It's the place we make plans and share secrets, and it's the place in the world we feel the greatest belonging. In short, a house no matter how nicley made, is still just a physical structure in which you can live, but the people experiences, and love shared within it's walls are what make it a home.
