Home is more than a building

Home is a feeling. It is the feeling of coming to a place where love encases you with comfort, kindness, and grace. The comfort that brings you happiness and wraps you in love is something that so many people dream of. So, home to me is a privilege not a guarantee but it does not have to be a building but simply a place where you feel appreciated and free. Home is laughter. The laughter I experience while with my family, is something that is so fragile, wholesome, and sweet and is something I look forward to every time we meet. This sanctuary that we call home has laughter weaved within our walls throughout every room and hall. It brings back bittersweet memories of me and my family and it is something that nobody can ever take away from me. Home is a smell. The smell I endure when I walk through the front door, reminds me of the meals my family and I partake in so many times before. The relieving scent of my mom’s famous buttery bread fills the air as it extinguishes all my inner thoughts that make me feel bare. The smell of home is relieving and brings comfort when times are rough because it provides warmth, love, and strength to all of those who don’t feel enough. Home is special. Home is not special because it is a place that you can find on the map or a place where you go in the night to take a nap. But it’s because of the people that build you up and take your fears away when you feel too heavy to sort them out your own way. The people that I consider to be a part of my home are not all related by blood, but rather the people that stand by my side when my emotions start to turn into a flood. Home is an important part of my life. Home is so many things but above all it is where you are accepted, you have freedom, and love is formed no matter how small. I don’t know who I’d be without my home but all I know is I would feel alone. My home has a place in my heart, and I know that whatever happens to me, it will never become a small part. This is because my home is a feeling that will aways bring me a sense of healing.
