Meaning Of Home

What does home mean to you? Do you think of something in a flash? Well over 30,000 people aren’t as swift. Today I will tell you what comes to my mind when I think of home. The first thing I think of is family. My family brings color into gloomy days, and security at night. I cannot imagine living without them, so I am incredibly grateful for my family. My parents put a roof over my head and food on the table, and I am very sympathetic for those who have lost or never had that. My parents work hard to get money to do those things, but unfortunately some people don’t even get that chance. Then I think of safety. A lot of people don’t have secure homes, or homes at all. Your home should be a safe space, a place you want to go to at the end of the day. But again, over 30,000 people don’t have a place to stay, and it is extremely hard to get into homeless shelters around Canada, so many people live downtown, on the streets, and I cannot imagine living on the streets anywhere in Canada. I live in Winnipeg (or Winterpeg!) and we sometimes have -40 winters. I cannot imagine trying to survive in that extreme weather without a shelter. A home also needs a little joy and fun, because having fun should make you feel comfortable and safe all over again. What I do for fun is usually play games, have movie nights, and play with my neighbors and friends, and I am very appreciative to have those things. Everyone should feel joy and happiness even in dark times. That’s what comes to my mind when I think of home. It is amazing to think that so many people take home for granted when some people have never had a home.
