What Home Means to Me

Home is where I come to love my family. Family is love. Home means happiness and sadness because although I have a safe space here, I still remember when my Dad was alive. Home also means calmness and madness because everyone is calm, and nice, but then there are times when we are rushing to go to school or work, and then it’s “madness” or busy! Home is somewhere I can be kind and vulnerable. I can be myself and not worry about anyone hurting me. I am kind to my mom because she is a widow, and vulnerable because I hurt for my Dad. Home means respectfulness and caring because everyone is very kind to each other, especially since we know life is fleeting, and sometimes too short. I learned this when one day I went to bed after playing Risk, the board game, with my Dad, and then the next morning he passed away from a heart attack. This taught me that my home is very caring because his death means that he left me at this home, and left me with my mom and sister, and they care for me. Home also means honesty because my mom and sister are very honest with me when I am too loud or too noisy, and I am very honest with them when they are too loud, or not listening to me. Home means positivity and negativity because this is where I have all of my memories with my Dad, but also, negative because I will not have a future with him, and in this home is where he passed away. Home also means joy and fun because my family and I play together. This means a lot because my Dad loved movies and board games, and also phone games. So as long as we play and have fun, we can keep his memory alive in our home. That is what Home Means to Me.
