Meaning of Home

A home is a place that can’t be described by words alone, a home is subjective, as well as different for everyone. For some, a home is a feeling tied to a specific place, infrastructure, or anything else really. That place can be the country you were born in, a house you live in, a town you grew up in, or a farm you own. The feeling may be nostalgia, love, importance, familiarity, or even duty and responsibility. For others, home is the people around you, like family, friends, perhaps even animals. Those people feel home not in a location, but in who is there with you. And once again the feeling is different from person to person, but now the feelings are more subtle, like security, appreciation, love, and a lot more. And for some, home is just shelter, the place they live. Not necessarily the place of their dreams, and sometimes alone, some people think of home as shelter, without any special feeling or emotion. And, that opinion is just as respectful as any other opinion of what home means. Finally, some people think of home as a place where stereotypes don’t matter, and opinions are respected, not necessarily people, place, or shelter, more like the feeling of being respected, and approved. For example, when after the war in Ukraine started, we had to move to Canada with nothing but three suitcases. Honestly, I had no idea Canada existed before we moved here, yet something felt… Right? Like that’s where I was born to be, this might sound weird, but I felt like Canada was way closer to the place I wanted to be than Ukraine. From my experience, home may be a lot of different things, and everyone thinks of and feels it differently.
