A Home For Everybody
The streets are home to a stray cat or dog. They try to find shelter, warmth, food, and most of all, safety. A stray cat or dog only loses their home when it stops feeling safe, because they either ran out of food or lost shelter.
For some birds, a tree is a home. A bird spends its day with its bird friends, just trying to eat worms which are probably under a rock. Even if it has to migrate and change its tree, its home stays the same because it is with its friends and community.
For some ants, their colony is their home. They can’t be killed by any predators and they’re protected by their colony. Therefore they’re safe. They’re surrounded by other ants doing the exact same thing, serving their colony, or their community.
For a squirrel, a tall tree is its home. A place where it can’t be devoured by things much larger than itself. There, the squirrel is truly safe. A squirrel departs its tree to enjoy nice meals, but its home always stays in the same place. These squirrels are with their squirrel friends surrounding their trees, that creates community. They have community, and they feel safe, two important things which contribute to having a home.
For some people, their house isn’t a home. They may have a box around them, but they do not feel safe in their house. For others, their home is a safe, comfortable, and peaceful place where they’re with their community and friends. Some don’t have either. Others can’t even afford houses.
This issue is growing because of increasing house prices. Countless people are receiving homes from Habitat For Humanity. If humanity works together to fix this issue, one day we may be able to.
