What the Word “Home” means to me
I think a lot of people might mistake the difference between a house and a home, so I’m going to share my opinion about the two words.
A house is just a place, but a home is so much more, a home is a feeling that you and I both can’t describe.
But what does a home look like? To me, I think a home looks like memories from all the Christmases and birthdays I’ve spent at home. When I walk in my home and I smell my mom baking cookies, I know I’m home. And as much as I love spending a weekend in a hotel, nothing beats home.
I love going to bed and hearing the soft sound of Dad strumming his guitar. Or when I hear Mom playing the piano. To me, sitting around the table with my family eating dinner is home. Playing outside with my brothers is home. Lying on our couch watching a movie with my family is home.
A house is only a structure. But a home is a cozy, welcoming place that you get to call home. At home I can feel comfortable in my surroundings. At home I’ve experienced sadness, joy, excitement, nervousness and even fear. At home I’ve had bad dreams and good dreams, and when I wake up, I feel a sort of happiness and remember I am home and I am safe.
So next time you are going to use “home” or “house” in a sentence, just think about if the word you're using makes sense.
