The Meaning of Home
(not a true story)
“What’s the meaning of home?” I wondered aloud.
Dad said, “I think that home is a safe place to stay when it’s raining or when there’s a storm outside.”
“You know what the meaning of home is?” I exclaimed! I need to write an essay about the meaning of home for Habitat For Humanity.
Dad said ‘There are a lot of people who don't have homes. You could write about Habitat For Humanity helping those who don't have a home,” Dad said.
“Tell me more,” I said.
Dad said. “I’m out of ideas. You should go ask Mom.”
So, I went upstairs to Mom’s room. I asked Mom if she knew what the meaning of home is. Mom got up and said, “Yes, I think that home is a place to stay cozy, warm, and safe. Some people don't have any of those things,” Mom said. “That's why Habitat For Humanity builds homes.”
“A home for the homeless,” I said.
I asked Mom, “How much do the people without a home have to pay Habitat For Humanity to get a home?”
“The price is affordable for the people who don’t have homes. They also help build the home,” Mom said.
Then I said “Wow, now I can write my essay. I think it should start with Thank you Habitat For Humanity,” I said.
“I think that that is a wonderful idea,” Mom said.
So I started writing my essay and that essay is what you are reading right now.
