Home is More Valuable Than a House
This is a story of how a family of Canadians learned that sometimes home is more valuable than a house. It was a bright Saturday afternoon when one of the Travis’ had to go to the basement to get batteries. When they opened the cupboard though, they were in for a big surprise! Thousands of cockroaches came from the cupboard, spilling out everywhere! They had to leave their belongings behind so they had to replace everything. They didn’t have that much money left so they couldn’t afford a nice house like they had before so they had to go to all kinds of different houses. The first one they went to was in a bad neighborhood. There was gang fight and gun wars outside of their house and one time driving home they got ambushed and their car crashed! Bill, Steve’s son, died at the age of 5 and Lilly, the daughter, and Carly, Steve’s wife, sustained minor injuries. Bill had to get an arm cast because of the crash. They decided that they can no longer live at that house so they moved to another cheap house where they ran into rats and Steve got rabies. Once again, they moved to a new house and a new city. The city was big and had sketchy people. Although it was a big and popular city, the house had dirty water, the electricity didn’t work and the landlord was mean. One day at work one of Carly’s coworkers recommended Habitat for Humanity and got a nice affordable house. They lived there ever since and now Steve has realized that although they had a lot of houses a home is more valuable than a house.
