What home and house mean to me

The difference between a home and a house can be big or small, it depends on what you feel like a home is. But this is what it means to me. When I was younger I lived very far away. I had no friends to come and play. But I had a home. As soon as I walked in the door my pets would greet me with a tail wag and a kiss. My mom would be standing in the kitchen doing the dishes. My dad would help clean the house so we didn’t see a creature, not even a mouse. I would smell the cake that my mom had just baked. Now home has a different meaning to me. As soon as I walk over the threshold I feel safe, and I don’t need to worry. When I'm home I feel relieved from stress, so I have no need to hurry. I feel loved, I feel like I can talk while being listened to. I feel like the people I love motivate me to try my hardest. You can be alone and still feel happy. You feel like you matter. A house has four walls and a roof. You can live in a house but it might not feel like a home. You may have people standing all around you, but you still feel alone. A home doesn’t have to be a building. It can be anywhere you feel safe and loved. Where you can thrive to be your best! Thank you Habitat for Humanity for helping people who don’t have a home and for making the community a better place.
