Journey To Home

Journey To HomeA few weeks ago, if you would have asked me the question of where home is, I would have given a simple answer -Home is two blocks away from school and left it at that. When my librarian teacher told my class about the contest, I was very excited. As soon as I got home, I took out my notebook, pen, creativity, and my ambitious self, ready to start writing. As I started writing I remembered books I had read previously about home. All those books seemed to give out the same message of home being a place of belonging, happiness, and safety. But I know that not everyone in this world is as fortunate as the characters in my books and my family, and myself, so I wanted to create a piece of writing that, I hope, most people can relate to. Then I inquired of myself, what is home?I see home as being you, and to find that feeling you have to take a journey to discover yourself. Let’s say that you have to move to a new place. The new home you move to is foreign to you. You don’t know anyone in this new distinct place. You're second guessing if this new ‘home’ is where you're actually supposed to be. I think we have all been there. But that strange new place is what made you come to realize that difficult times are what influenced your journey to finding yourself. Another illustration could be that you can live in a small house all alone, meaning you have no friends or loved ones around you. You will still have a homebecause you are home. -Wherever you go, that's where home will follow. If home is you then, does that mean that your identity is home? I think Home Identity and you are always working together as one. Both are working for the same purpose to shape your life and self discovery.Even if you don’t realize it, you have an identity. Identity is what you believe, act like and value in your life. The little things you care about, are also part of who you are. Like your favorite food, sport, and past time.Identity is also found in family, friends, and meaningful relationships, Identity doesn’t mean meeting other peoples expectations but it can mean following good advice from mentors, such us teachers, counselors, and positive friendships from school. All the good traits and characteristicsthat you possess such us courage, perseverance, kindness, even your sense of humorare what made you. Its your identity, that’s precisely what home is. You will always have an identity. But that’s ok if you haven’t found it yet, it took me some time to find it myselfand I continue to love my journey to home. That feeling of finding yourself is remarkable. It’s a feeling of joy when you recognize that a home was always waiting for you at the end of the road. Those challenges and accomplishments are what shaped your journey.Have fun discovering and exploring your personal journey to home.
