What Home Means to Me

For me, home does not even have to be where you live. It can be a friend's house, a family member's house, a farm, school, library, forest, even a town, it does not even have to be a place. It could be a person or an Ammal. It does not matter. For me home is not even where I live. Everybody knows what home means; it is the place where you live. Thats not wrong, but for me it means something a little bit different. For me, the word home means that you have a place, or you have a thing where you can just be yourself. It is this place where you can be you, where you do not have to worry about the judgment of others, a place where you feel safe. Everyone, everyone deserves to be able to have a place where they feel safe. But not everyone has a home, some people are still looking for a safe place to live. I remember last year at school, and we watched a video in class, and it was about how up in the northwest territories and Nunavut that there was not enough housing and that a lot of the houses had at least 8 people maybe even more, and then the teachers talking about it and what we could or would do. They told us that it was important to learn about this stuff. Last year I lost my house to a fire, and we had to move quite a bit. First, we were grandmas and grandpas then a hotel after that an AIRBNB next we were at a friend's house for a few months now were at a different house till our house is rebuilt. And it is weird. I miss my old house. And no house will ever place it. I guess that is what home really is. A place that can never really be replaced. Many people do not have homes, many are homeless all around the world. Whether it was because of war, weather, fires, or anything else, that is a reason people do not have homes. Right now, in Canada homelessness ranges from 150 000- 300 000. And that is just in Canada. Thats a lot of people. And the estimation of Canada is 41 465 -298 that leaves about 41 100 298 people with homes, and I bet a fairly good amount of the people with homes are struggling to meet ends meet. So, it's important that we don't just ignore it. We need to be aware that there are people struggling and that we don't just pretend that this is not happening because it is, and we need to be aware of that. And so, that's what home means to me: it is a place where you feel safe and can be yourself, where you can stay or live where you know that you don't have to worry too much.
