Meaning of Home

When I come home, I don’t feel alone Coming home to a nice snack, feeling warmth on my back Seeing my mom’s warm embrace, has me running at max pace Seeing my dad on the couch, makes me smile out loud Coming down stairs, seeing my brothers hair, having me crack up a smile while he is running to the bathroom like a crocodile My brother makes me mad, but then I can forgive him after he makes my bed Walking into the kitchen, seeing my mom hovering over the stove, has me forever grateful of her warm love Seeing my dog run into my bedroom at max speed, has me cleaning up his pee, after he sees me Going out to the pasture, seeing my cows, has me wondering about what they are thinking about. What am I thinking about you may ask, how my brisket will turn out When I see the goats, they go crazy, wondering if I have brought their favourite treat, but really, my favourite treat is just getting to see them dance on their feet. Baking with my mom, has me wondering when the muffins will be done, after trying a new recipe, wondering when I will be able to eat Mom’s banana muffins will forever be my favourite, as they remind me of her whenever I eat it, my mom is the best cook I have ever met, you might be wondering when I decided that, well to tell you the truth, I have loved my moms cooking after the first meal I ate, a smashed blueberry to be exact. Walking into the laundry room has me going tizzy at the smell of all of those fumes, but after a while it doesn’t really bug me, knowing that those clothes will keep me warm and snug, when the awful cold bugs me. Going up the stairs, has me remembering all of those good years, seeing the marks on the wall, has me going to start bawling, when the nostalgia hits all of those painful, funny, happy and joyful memories. Going into my room, has me looking at the walls, seeing all of the positivity, has me going into a ball, crawling up into my bed, feeling safe and secure and resting my head My room is a place that my brothers can’t go, simply because of a lock on my door, when I am stressed or overwhelmed, I know that I can calm down, knowing that that lock on the door, has them not able to open it anymore Waking into the bathroom, has me feeling like I need a tissue, when I look into the shower, seeing all of the power, in that great shower, going to keep me clean, has me keen about destroying the day My home isn’t just a building with some walls and a roof, it is a happy place for me and you When the times get hard, being home is the best part, just walking through those walls, has me going for a stroll down memory lane, and knowing that I am safe, has me feeling like I am in a better place I will be forever grateful of my home, knowing that some people don’t have one at all, I will always be grateful for the warm food that lies inside those walls, feeling good and nourished after a long day of tenderness Thank you home for the joy that lies inside, thank you for the hope you hold, thank you for the stories that you told When I am feeling sad, I know that when I walk into my home, that I will feel safe and protected from all of the bad hope Thank you Habitat for Humanity for taking care of our own, you have created something that will change the world, I believe in you and so does my home
