The Meaning of Home

My home is my house And my house is my home. A place where I’m safe, even when I’m alone. The walls may be simple, the roof may be plain, But inside there’s love that will always remain. It keeps me warm when the cold winds blow, It gives me light with a soft, warm glow. I have a bed, a place to rest, A roof above, I know I’m blessed. But out in the world, so many still roam, With no place to rest, with no house to call home. They sleep in the cold, they sit in the rain, They dream of a home, free from their pain. They walk through the streets, tired and alone, With no cozy bed, no place of their own. Some people rush past, not looking their way, While they wish for a kind word, just for one day. If I have a home, if I have a door, Maybe I can do something more. A meal, a blanket, a smile, a hand, A small bit of love, a way to stand. For home is not walls, nor wood, nor stone, It lives in the hearts that make it their own. And maybe one day, the world will be bright, Where no one sleeps out in the cold of the night. My house is my home And my home is my house I will by donating to Habitat for Humanity and you should too To help ones who are alone without a house to call home.
