Home
My name is Oliver Fenwick and I’m in grade six. I’m going to tell you what I think home is. The meaning of home to someone can about anything, like your mother saying “Hi.” to you every day. Or maybe the way they give you space. Today I’m going to tell you what I think home is to me. Home for me is trust, love, and space.
Some days at school I feel like I can’t be my true self. Some days at school I feel that I must put on a mask or build an imaginary wall around myself just to fit in. Some days at school I emotionally hurt people because I’m scared, I’ll get hurt the same way. When I’m at home I feel comfortable and safe of judgement. I can finally take off that mask.
There are so many things I could say about my home, but this is what you need to know. At home I feel relaxed and almost excited to see my family. It’s the joy of seeing all the people I have very strong bonds with. The ability of being able to trust them and show weakness to people that will not judge me.
When I feel stressed, and needing alone time, I have my own space. When I go into my space, I feel safe and loved to know that I have the privilege to have this space to myself because other people don’t.
In the end, the meaning of home will always be different for everyone. To me, home means a safe, loving place that’s not judgmental. Sometimes homes have setbacks, but a real home will always find peace and love. That’s what I think the meaning of home is to me.
