This is My Home

This is my home By Dorian Dedicated to all the staff and workers of YMCA Wanakita. Home isn't always a place. To me home is simply where you feel the happiest. Home could be a person, or a thing. I know my grandfather felt the most at home in his big chair, before he died. My mom feels at home with yarn in her hands. My dad misses his mother’s hamantaschen. My grandmother feels most at home with all her children wrapped around her. My house is in Waterloo, Ontario. My true home is more than 330 kilometers away. My home is on Koshlong Lake road, Haliburton, Ontario. Every single day I spend, when I knowIi can’t be there, I miss Wanakita, with all my heart. Wanakita isn’t just my home because of it’s beautiful forests, shining lake, wonderful campsites, Or even the lush and welcoming cabins. Wanakita is my home because I am welcomed there. Wanakita is my home because no matter what, I will always have friends to go to when I am there. In my third year of being a camper at Wanakita, I didn’t even need people to comfort me. We were camping on a small peninsula, on the first day of our outtrip and I spent the entire evening sitting on a flat and mossy rock, looking at the sunset. I was so happy, I Had to be called back to our campsite to get some sleep, because I had sat there for three hours, just listening to the water and watching the stars come out. I have never forgotten how soothing it feels to sit by the water, just watching. I love Wanakita for the acceptance, the patience, the love. I love Wanakita for all the happy memories, the games, the dances, the pca’s, wood cabins, dense woods, fun adventures, and most of all, the beautiful people there with me.
